Frequently Asked Questions

How can I see trains in real time?
Type the train number or the station name in the search at the top of the page. The train page shows delay, next stop, platform and position on the map; the station page shows the departures and arrivals board. The information comes from the Italian railways' public running data.
Where can I see if trains are delayed?
On Treniamo the delay of every train we follow is on its own page and on the station board. For the whole network there is the Train delays today page, with the average delay of the day and the most delayed trains and stations.
What is happening to Italian trains today?
At 14:27 Treniamo follows 5,170 trains running today. Out of 100 station stops, 82 are within 5 minutes of schedule; the average delay is 3.4 minutes. Operator notices about slowed or interrupted lines are in the Service alerts box at the top of the page.
When is a train considered late?
Trenitalia counts a regional train as on time when it arrives within 5 minutes of schedule, and a medium or long-distance train within 15 minutes. In the Network right now box Treniamo uses the 5-minute threshold; "on time to the minute" counts only stops with no delay.
How late must a train be to get a refund?
The European passenger rights regulation grants compensation from 60 minutes of delay at arrival: 25% of the ticket between 60 and 119 minutes, 50% from 120 minutes. Trenitalia and Italo also have their own rules for some trains: the delay refund page explains them.
Which app shows if a train is delayed?
Treniamo also works in your phone's browser: save your train or station in My trains to find them again with the current delay. The operators' apps are Trenitalia's and Italo's; for station boards there is also ViaggiaTreno.
How can I see if there are train strikes today?
The Train strikes page lists strikes in the Italian Ministry of Transport calendar, with dates, times and information on guaranteed services. On strike day cancelled trains show as cancelled on the train page and on the station board.
Is Treniamo free, and is it an official service?
Treniamo is free and needs no registration. It is not an official service: it is independent from Trenitalia, Italo and RFI and uses the Italian railways' public running data. For refunds and complaints the operator's data applies.
Why aren't train positions on the map always accurate?
Positions are estimated by interpolating between stations based on schedules and delays, not via GPS. When available, trains follow actual railway track geometry; otherwise they are placed in a straight line. This means a train may appear on a different route than the one it's actually on.
